At Home in Maine

Live in a beautiful state full of opportunities

York, where our main hospital campus resides, is one of the oldest cities in Southern Maine — located on the coast beside Mount Agamenticus. The area boasts incredible views, endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, and easy access to Boston (just an hour away) and Seacoast New Hampshire (25 minutes away), making it one of Maine’s premiere vacation destinations.

York Hospital also has locations in nearby towns that include Berwick, South Berwick, Kittery, Sanford, and Wells in Maine, as well as Newington in New Hampshire. Experience the charm of this quaint New England area, and feel right at home in no time at all.

Things to do

You’ll never run out of things to do while living in the York area, with fun activities to enjoy year round.

Skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating — oh my! Maine is home to some of the Northeast’s best ski resorts, including Sugarloaf Mountain, and Sunday River. There are several outdoor ice rinks within a short drive, like The Rink at Thompsons Point in Portland, Maine and Puddle Duck Pond in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. We also recommend visiting Kennebunk, Maine during the holiday season for their Christmas Prelude, in which the town transforms into the New England version of the North Pole.

Love golfing and family activities? The city of York draws golfers from across the state to play its popular courses, which include The Ledges Golf Club, York Golf and Tennis Club, and others. And for family fun, check out York’s Wild Kingdom Zoo and Fun Park, which offers rides, paddle boats, a minigolf course, a petting zoo, picnic grounds, concession stands, and more.

There’s always something fun to do on the coast! Long Sands Beach offers two miles of beautiful white sands and prime surfing waves, while Short Sands Beach offers a classic boardwalk amusement park experience. There’s ample opportunity for deep sea fishing and boating, whether you own a boat or plan a trip with one of the many charter companies. You’ll also be close to one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country, Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse — the perfect day trip destination for a picnic.

Fall

Maine’s beauty truly comes to life in the fall. Visit Mount Agamenticus for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and picnicking — with views from the top of Boston, Cape Elizabeth, and even Mount Washington. Enjoy the beautiful fall scenery with foliage tours and apple picking. And if you’d like to learn the history of the area, York is lined with museums that include old New England artwork, original architecture, and antiques dating back to the early 1600s
